INTRODUCTION: –
Navratri, a Hindu festival, is a vibrant and auspicious celebration that spans nine nights and is dedicated to the worship of the goddess Durga. The word “Navratri” is derived from two Sanskrit words: “Nav” meaning nine, and “Ratri” meaning night. This festival typically occurs in the Hindu month of Ashwin, which falls between September and October in the Gregorian calendar.
Navratri holds immense cultural and religious significance across India and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion. The festival marks the victory of the goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Each of the nine nights is dedicated to a different form of the goddess, collectively known as Navadurga.
The festival often involves fasting, prayer, dance, and music. Devotees engage in various rituals, such as adorning their homes with lights, flowers, and colorful decorations. Traditional dances, known as Garba and Dandiya, are performed in vibrant attire, adding to the festive atmosphere. These dances celebrate the divine feminine energy and are an integral part of Navratri celebrations.
